HEAT SEALING 7-MIL MYLAR BAGS

We are often asked "What can I use to heat seal mylar bags?" or "Will my food saver vacuum sealer work on your bags?"

A hair straightening flat iron is one of the simplest and most reliable and economic ways to seal our bags. The best seal is achieved at a temperature setting of 375-425 deg. F which is the temperature of most hair straightening flat irons making them the ideal solution for heat sealing laminated foil barrier bags. Here is a video demonstrating how it's done.

FOODSAVER and other vacuum packing systems (JVR Industries JVR VAC100):

The FoodSaver system or similar low end vacuum machines will not work with our bags because of the thickness (7-mil on each side = 14 mil total sealing thickness). Some of the chamber vacuum packing / sealing systems do work on 7 mil bags. One chamber vacuum that we recommend looking into is the JVR VAC100 that provides a very strong seal on both 7 mil mylar pouches and gold retort pouches.  Apart from the JVR VAC100, there are so many different chamber vac systems available with different settings / parameters that we do not make specific recommendations without having tested those systems.

IMPULSE SEALERS:

Impulse sealers will work but require a bit of experimentation to find a setting that provides an even seal without burning entirely through the bag. The width of the seal is narrow ~5mm
